Instructions on how to use our Super Bio Bags

  • At Start Up Process of your shrimp tank
    • Place the bag inside the aquarium 3 days after you have filled up the water in your new tank
    • The Super Bio Bag will release tannins (humid acid) into the tank water, the tank will go yellow colour due to to this reason
    • Your tank water will become cloudy after a day, this is completely normal due to the bacterial bloom causing the imbalance
    • Don't do any water changes at all during this stage. The cloudiness will go away after 7 days and then you can do a 50% water changes
    • Continue the Nitrogen Cycle as normal, the slight increase in ammonia reading is expected due to the bag. This ammonia source is the one to help the nitrogen cycle completed faster.
    • After 7 days of the bags being inside the water, you can see the white slimy biofilm developed on the outside of the bags, you can scrape these biofilm and feed your existing shrimp colony.
    • If you don't have any other shrimp tanks apart from this, scrape this biofilm off and discard them. It is also ok to keep these inside your tanks.
    • However if the biofilm is not consumed, over few weeks time, it will break down into brown dusts and may make your tank look unsightly.
  • Using in an established tank:
    • If you are going to use our Super Bio Bag in an established tanks, or to replace your old Super Bio Bag, we recommend you to soak the bags in a tub of RO container, for 5-7 days before placing them into your tank
    • Doing it this way, it will stop the tank's water become yellow tannin colours, which some of you may not like. But this humid acid's tannin is very beneficial for your tanks, it is a trade off :)
    • The new bag if not being pre-soaked, will raise the ammonia inside your tanks, hence if the filtrations system is not fully established, your tank will become cloudy due to bacterial bloom. This is completely normal and the water will become clear again after a week or so.
    • You don't need to take the old bag out (if you are replacing them) - they can all be left inside the tanks.
    • The old bag will now become inactive and is a medium for beneficial bacterials to grow - this is good for your tank's cycle

PLEASE NOTE: The bags after 2-3 weeks inside your tanks, if taken out of the water, there will be an unpleasant smell - this is completely normal due to the organic being break down. Don't try to smell it as it stinks :p
